Press Conference Held for Releasing Big Data of the National Day and Middle Autumn Festival Holidays and the Annual Report of China Outbound Tourism Development 2017

On October 13, in Beijing, a press conference was held for releasing the big data of the National Day and Middle Autumn Festival Holidays and the Annual Report of China Outbound Tourism Development 2017. This conference was jointly hosted by Data Center of China National Tourism Administration, CHINA TELECOM, and China ums.

CTA President Dai Bin gave a keynote speech entitled “Tourism Data Should Always Serve to Market Entity”. He expressed that the tourism data produced and released should, also could be helpful to market entity in observing the general situation and judging the future tendency, serve market entity in investment entrepreneurship, management innovation, and commercial research and development, also be helpful to the public in understanding the realistic role of market entity in a reasonable and systemic way. He also expressed his hope that in near future more market entities could benefit from both thought and data, be stronger in the space of tourism power, and be more steadily going on in the land of fair competition.

At the conference, Big Data Product Chief Inspector Wang Feng of CHINA TELECOM Cloud Computing Company released the “Report of Big Data of Nationwide Self-drive Tourism during the National Day and Middle Autumn Festival Holidays in 2017”. The report suggests that self-drive tourism was more positive thanks to the continuity of the two festivals; tourists had longer stay; the level of self-drive consumption was higher than that of average consumption in the National Day holidays; self-drive tourism was favored in family travel of 2-5 members; self-drive tourism was most active in the provinces of Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Sichuan; and 59% self-drive was for countryside tourism, and 55% for urban tourism.

Business Management General Manager Yu Zhen of China ums released the “Report of Big Data of Tourism Consumption during the National Day and Middle Autumn Festival Holidays in 2017”. The report suggests during the holidays people were enthusiastic for travelling; youths and the middle-aged became the main force of tourism consumption; choice of tourist destinations was multiple; tourism consumption was accelerated, transformed, and upgraded; demand for high-end hotel was increasing, the proportion of alternative hotel such as family-run inn was also increasing; and special and featured restaurants were favored by tourists.


Person-in-charge He Qiongfeng of CTA National Tourism Economy Laboratory released the “Report of Big Data of Countryside Tourism during the National Day and Middle Autumn Festival Holidays in 2017”. The report suggests during the holidays countryside tourism market was particularly welcomed, the characteristic of in-depth countryside experience was prominent; and both planned travel and normal travel were popular; self-drive travel and relative and friend visiting travel were the two major categories of countryside tourism in those holidays; and regional countryside tourism development was relatively harmonious, and countryside travels were highly concentrated in popular tourist cities.


Director Jiang Yiyi of CTA Institute of International Tourism Development released the “Annual Report of China Outbound Tourism Development 2017”. The report suggests that the overall growth of China outbound tourism market and consumption was slowed down; structurally the increase of outbound tourism rate was significant; the increase of tourists to countries along “The Belt and Road” was outstanding; economic growth was the main force to generate outbound tourists; the vitality of outbound tourism market was further strengthened in west China and the “new first-tier cities”;the consumption acts at tourist destinations showed a transformation from “shopping and shopping” to “sightseeing and sightseeing”; according to the degree of tourist satisfaction, Chinese tourists were more satisfied with the general image and tourism service of tourist destination.


At the roundtable time, the distinguished experts held in-depth discussion on the topic of “holiday tourism hotspots and the opportunity of international tourism market”.
