On the afternoon of June 8, 2017, in Beijing, China Tourism Academy (CTA) and Airbnb jointly held the Forum on Sharing Economy and Tourism Development.

In his speech, President Dai Bin stated that we could strongly feel “the coming of sharing era”, either in people’s daily consumption or in the Central Government’s document; sharing economy enterprises, represented by Airbnb, played a key role in connecting consumers and destinations; the development of sharing economy required investors, managers, governments, and social service sectors to undertake their respective responsibilities, and they should also make joint efforts for the aim of “quality enjoyable by the majority of tourists”.

Airbnb China Vice President Ms An Li stated in her speech, sharing economy was attractive, not only because its highly efficient resource sharing mode realized good match between social resource and demand, but also its special philosophy of common participation, common benefit, and cultural sharing influenced thousands of users; the special mode and philosophy were changing our understanding and practice of travel.

On behalf of the project team, Dr. Su Na of CTA Institute of Tourism Industry and Enterprise Development released Report of China Sharing Housing Tendency 2017. This report suggested: China had become an important and increasing market of global sharing housing consumption. In 2016, about 1.6 million Chinese outbound tourists used Airbnb, a year-on-year growth of 142%. Housing sharing platforms, represented by Airbnb, are increasingly richening tourist’s housing experience and changing the traditional tourist-attraction-centered tourism with support of “catering, housing, and travelling”.

The attendees held extensive discussions on the topics of “sharing economy opening the new era of tourism consumption” and “sharing economy putting new energy into tourism economy development”.
