The Ceremony of Mr. Gao Shunli Book Donation & Workshop on Tourism Literature Building Held in Beijing

On Dec. 29 a.m., the Center for National Tourism Literature and Information of China Tourism Academy (CTA) held the Ceremony of Mr. Gao Shunli Book Donation & Workshop on Tourism Literature Building. This conference was attended by CTA President Dai Bin, Mr. Gao Shunli, former Director of China Tourism News Agency, Prof. Zhang Lingyun, Member of CTA Academic Committee & Executive Editor of Tourism Tribune, Assoc. Prof. Ma Tao of the National Library, Chief Researcher Song Ziqian of CTA Institute of Tourism Policy and Strategy Studies, and Dr. He Qiongfeng, person-in-charge of CTA National Laboratory for Tourism Economy, etc. And the ceremony was chaired by CTA Chief Statistician Tang Xiaoyun.


At the donation ceremony, on behalf of CTA, President Dai Bin accepted the books and historical literature donated by Mr. Gao and conferred the donation certificate and CTA’s latest academic publications to Mr. Gao. On behalf of CTA Center for National Tourism Literature and Information, President Dai Bin expressed thanks to Mr. Gao and acknowledged that Mr. Gao was a key witness for the history of China tourism development as well as an excellent representative of civil servants and media personnel in tourism administration, and in diligent work Mr. Gao collected a great number of valuable books and historical literature. In addition, President Dai Bin stated that CTA Center for National Tourism Literature and Information would carefully archive the books and literature through digitalization and cataloging with the information of the donator, by which the thought on tourism and tourism historical literature could be preserved and transmitted to the later generations. Meanwhile, he expressed his hope that Mr. Gao’s donation could set an example for other comrades in preserving the historical literature, which would benefit to the later generations. When accepting the donation certificate, Mr. Gao pointed out that literature building was essential to archiving China tourism development and a necessity for tourism research, and it would play a key and supporting role in building China into a tourism-developed country; and he expressed his hope that his donation could remind all sectors of society to attach importance to the preservation of tourism literature. And he said that he would like to initiate more donation activities and collect more tourism books and literature. 



CTA Center for National Tourism Literature and Information offered the Literature Borrowing Card to Mr. Gao. Two batches of books had been donated by Mr. Gao to the Center for National Tourism Literature and Information. The later batch included more than one thousand volumes of books, documents, magazines, and newspapers, etc.; and the earlier batch included about 1,200 volumes of books, tourism policy documents, first issues of journal and magazine, and portfolios, etc.



The Workshop on Tourism Literature Building was held after the donation ceremony. The attending experts made a free discussion about the specific topics of tourism literature building. Prof. Zhang Lingyun pointed out that tourism research should attach high importance to the value of historical literature, fully function the role of academic community, and successfully build and make full use of tourism literature materials. And Prof. Zhang proposed some suggestions about tourism literature donation promotion, and the use of donated literature materials, etc., and expressed his hope to support the construction of CTA Center for National Tourism Literature and Information and call for donation by more people so as to maximally use the value of tourism literature and information. Besides, Mr. Gao also proposed several constructive suggestions about the channel of tourism literature collection, contents of tourism literature to be collected, classification of tourism literature, and oral literature database building, etc. Assoc. Prof. Ma Tao made a professional introduction to the latest progress and new tendency of literature information building in China and those in the international community, and gave many suggestions about material collection, literature classification, and collection method, etc., in terms of CTA’s building of tourism literature and information.  



CTA Chief Statistician Tang Xiaoyun made a brief introduction to the work of the Center for National Tourism Literature and Information. She stated that under the leadership of President Dai Bin, after more than three year’s effort, the Center had primarily built a CTA-featured literature information system, and would become a first-class tourism literature and information center in the future in China and even in the world, which could combine the functions of library, archive, and museum and provide Chinese and international tourism researchers with information and intellectual support. Dr. Song Ziqian, Dr. He Qiongfeng, and post-doctoral fellow Liu Xiangyan also joined the discussion about CTA’s literature and information work.
