Annual Conference of CTA External Institutions 2018 Held at Xiamen University

On Dec. 21, 2017, the Annual Conference of CTA External Institutions 2018 was held at Xiamen University. This conference was attended by CTA President Dai Bin, CTA Vice President Li Zhongguang, the persons in charge of two CTA branches and 14 CTA research bases, and the representatives of 5 observer status institutions. And it was organized by the Research Base of Tourism in Taiwan. 



The conference was chaired by President Dai Bin. The heads of CTA branches and the principal investigators of CTA research bases reviewed the work in 2017 and outlined the plan for the year of 2018 in terms of theory building, service for the public, research team building and talent cultivation, academic publication, domestic and international academic exchanges, and academic communication and promotion, etc.


After hearing the introductions of all external institutions, President Dai Bin fully acknowledged the work of the CTA branches and that of CTA research bases in the year of 2017, especially the active explorations and achievements made from their respective characteristics and advantages. In light of studying the spirit of the 19th CCP National Congress and implementing the strategy of tourism industry in the year of 2018, President Dai Bin requested that the branches and the research bases should be dedicated to tourism research and practical exploration centered around “the people’s demand for better life”, and suggested that tourism research and market entity could establish synergistic network and build theory promotion system and popularity platform; and he encouraged cooperation among the branches and the research bases for jointly building a platform of tourism academic community.



President Dai Bin pointed out that the new era would meet new opportunities and new tasks. Therefore, all branches and research bases should observe the new tendency of tourism development and accomplish the following commitments. The first was to implement the overall plan of CTA, further clarify academic orientation, and cultivate their respective characteristics of development. The second was to continue to strengthen organization and ideology work, build better research teams, and cultivate younger scholars. The third was to take the opportunity of establishing the National Tourism Data Center, strengthen the building of based data platform under the guidance of the data center, gradually improve the ability of data collection and professional analysis, and try to produce a batch of significant achievements in tourism data. And the fourth was to actively advance joint efforts with the institution of higher learning and further strengthen the external institution’s communications and cooperation with all departments of the host university.


President Dai Bin stated that China Tourism Academy and the external institutions as an academic community should be open to the development and change of tourism tendency in China and in the world, focus on the key issues of discipline development, attach importance to put theory into practice, value the right of speech in the new era, and build a new media platform which could not only highlight the characteristics of CTA but also communicate to the public in an efficient way.


During the conference, Xiamen University held the “30th Anniversary Ceremony of Xiamen University Tourism Education”. CTA President Dai Bin attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. The ceremony had about one hundred attendees including Director Yang Qi of Xiamen Municipal Tourism Development Commission and the leaders of Xiamen University, Collaborative Innovation Center for Peaceful Development, Xiamen University School of Management, as well as the representatives of tourism academics in Taiwan and the Mainland.
