Annual Conference of CTA External Institutions 2018 & Cross-strait Tourism Symposium Held at Xiamen University

On Dec. 22, the Annual Conference of CTA External Institutions 2018 & the Cross-strait Tourism Symposium was held at Xiamen University. This conference was hosted by China Tourism Academy (CTA) and organized by CTA Research Base of Tourism in Taiwan (Xiamen University). The theme of the conference was “Inbound Tourism Development: New Era, New Opportunity, and New Commitment”. And it had more than 150 attendees including CTA Delegation, the representatives of two CTA branches, 14 CTA research bases, and five observer status institutions, tourism experts from Taiwan and the Mainland, and the representatives of Xiamen University faculty members and students.



The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Huang Fucai, Principal Investigator of CTA Research Base of Tourism in Taiwan. Speeches were delivered at the conference by CTA Vice President Li Zhongguang, Deputy Director Zhong Hailin of Xiamen Municipal Tourism Development Commission, and the leaders of Xiamen University, Collaborative Innovation Center for Peaceful Development, and Xiamen University School of Management. 


CTA offered “China Tourism Academy (Graduate Student) Excellence Scholarship Fund” to CTA Research Base of Tourism in Taiwan, which will be used to support the graduate students at the Research Base in doing research and innovation. With the theme of “Channel Optimization and Policy Coordination for Inbound Tourism Development”, the first seminar was chaired by Director Jiang Yiyi of CTA Institute of International Tourism Development. And Prof. Ma Yaofeng, Principal Investigator of CTA Research Base of West China Tourism Development, made a keynote speech entitled “Policy Coordination and Channel Optimization for China Inbound Tourism in the New Era”. 



Extensive discussion about the aforesaid theme was made by Dr. Meng Rui of CTA Kunming Branch, Prof. Shi Da of CTA Research Base of Tourism Basics Theory, Prof. & PI Tian Li of CTA Research Base of Border Tourism, Prof. Ma Yong of Hubei University, and Prof. Cheng Jinlong of Luoyang Normal University. 


The theme of the second seminar was “Inbound Tourism Promotion Strategy and Product Innovation”. This seminar was chaired by Prof. Zhang Chaozhi of CTA Research Base of Tourism Influence. Ans CTA Academic Consultant Prof. Zhang Guangrui made a keynote speech entitled “Consideration of Inbound Tourism Marketing and Product Innovation”. 



Extensive discussion about inbound tourism marketing and product innovation was made by Prof. & PI Xu Yunsong of CTA Research Base of Tourism Standardization, Prof. & PI Cheng Suiying of CTA Research Base of Cultural Tourism, Assoc. Prof. Chen Ye of CTA Research Base of Tourism Market and Destination Marketing, and Dr. Li Chuangxin of CTA Institute of International Tourism Development.


The theme of the third seminar was “Inbound Tourism Market Entity Construction”. This seminar was chaired by Prof. Chen Wuxiang of CTA Research Base of ASEAN Tourism. And Prof. Gao Jun of CTA Research Base of Urban Tourism made a keynote speech entitled “Construction of Urban Tourism Destination Full of Friendly Atmosphere” (presented by Dr. Feng Xiang).



Communications were made in this seminar by Prof. Luo Zibai of Chongqing Normal University, Prof. Shu Boyang of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Dr. Yin Shengli of Xiangtan University, and Dr. Jiang Yanxia of CTA National Laboratory for Tourism Economy. 


The fourth seminar had a special theme of “Cross-strait Tourism” and was chaired by Prof. Lin Derong of CTA Research Base of Tourism in Taiwan. And Prof. & PI Huang Fucai of CTA Research Base of Tourism in Taiwan made a keynote speech entitled “Consideration of the Key Issues of Cross-strait Tourism Exchanges in the New Situation”


Discussion about several issues of cross-strait tourism in the new era, especially rural tourism development and tourism market entity cultivation, etc., was made by Prof. Wang Degang of Shangdong University, Prof. Feng Xuegang of East China Normal University, Prof. Jen-Son Cheng of National Chi Nan University, Prof. Cheng-Ho Wu of Providence University, Dr. Guo Na of CTA Institute of Regional Tourism Planning and Development, and Postdoctoral Fellow Zhen Weijia of CTA Institute of Tourism Industry and Enterprise Development.



In his speech at the opening ceremony and the concluding remarks, CTA Vice President Li Zhongguang pointed out that in recent years, tourism research was greatly supportive of tourism development. In the practice of all-around service for the development, the achievements of tourism research were outstanding. He expressed his hope that the research of the academic community could further facilitate the development of tourism industry, including that of inbound tourism. The Central Government paid high attention to inbound tourism development which was facing both new opportunities and new challenges. Experts at this conference had made theoretical analysis and practical exploration of inbound tourism, and held extensive and in-depth discussions about serval issues of inbound tourism in the new era. He also expressed his belief that starting from this annual conference, the tourism academic community could advance the research of new pattern for inbound tourism development with the international view and Chinese characteristics. And he affirmed that at this conference, the senior tourism scholars and the younger scholars shared their respective experiences as well as met different minds, and the leading scholars showed their vitalities, which was beneficial for the development of the tourism academic community.   


This annual conference also met the 30th Anniversary Ceremony of Xiamen University Tourism Education & the 40th Anniversary Ceremony of Prof. Huang Fucai’s Teaching Career. On behalf of CTA, President Dai Bin and Vice President Li Zhongguang expressed congratulations to Xiamen University and Prof. Huang and thanks to the university and Prof. Huang’s research team for their work in the successful holding of the conference, and acknowledged the remarkable contributions of CTA Research Base of Tourism in Taiwan to the research on tourism in Taiwan and expressed their hope that the research base could make more achievements which would advance the cross-strait tourism and the people’s well-being.
